The top 5 biggest drug seizures in 2018 are all from the U.S. According to data provided by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), more than 3,500 people were arrested in the first six months of 2018 for drug possession, possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana, or possession of cocaine.
The DEA said that between February and October of 2018, the DEA and state and local law enforcement officers seized $5.3 billion worth of drugs and paraphernalia, including heroin, cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, fentanyl, and ecstasy.
The numbers were compiled by the DEA’s National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), which has been working to track drug trafficking in the United States since 2014.
“Drugs are the biggest cash cow for cartels and cartels are the largest revenue streams for drug cartels,” said DEA Acting Administrator Marc Veres.
